What you need before your first release

UPDATED 9 AUGUST 2026 · 3 MIN READ

The checklist

  • Mastered audio. WAV, 16-bit or 24-bit, 44.1kHz or higher. Not an MP3 bounced from a demo session.
  • Cover art. Square, at least 3000×3000px, RGB. No URLs, no social handles, no store logos, and nothing you do not hold the rights to.
  • Final metadata. Track title, artist name exactly as it should appear forever, featured artists, songwriter and producer credits, language and genre.
  • Rights clearance. Samples cleared before release, not after. Covers need the mechanical licence for the territories you are releasing in.
  • A release date with room in it. Three to four weeks out, not next Friday.

The one that costs the most

Artist name spelling. Use the same name, spelled identically, on every release forever. Two spellings create two artist profiles and split your listeners in half — and merging them afterwards means asking each store separately.

What we give you

ISRCs are assigned free on every plan, including Debut. If a recording already has an ISRC from a previous distributor, use the existing one — see what an ISRC is for why that matters.
